School is Bull

When I say "bull" I'm meaning bullshit. School has really not been bullshit but some things involving school are, so in my over dramatic ways I like to just say, "school is bull". Plus it rhymes and I like that.

So as most of you know, I quit my job in January and started cosmetology school full time to become a hair stylist. I spent the first four months in the class room having my patience tested and tried to keep reminding myself that I was paying to be there. In fact, paying quite a bit of money to be there.

Then after those 4 months I got moved out onto the clinic floor and stopped torturing my mannequin and started torturing real people's hair. This couldn't have come at a better time because after being in a classroom with the same 20 people 5 days a week you start going a little nutty. And if you are me, you start thinking of how you are going to kill people (I'm kidding...sort of). We were all really anxious and happy about moving onto the floor and it's been such a great experience. Well, for the most part. There have been a few mishaps on people's heads, like the time I totally jacked up this ladies fringe, but nothing I couldn't talk my way out of or my educator couldn't come over and correct for me. Hey, shit happens.

Not to mention our class has really grown together and I have made some wonderful friends. We have learned how to lean on each other when things get tough and we are always there for each other to grab a happy hour drink and have a bitch fest. Surprisingly I have learned a lot from my classmates, we are all so different and bring something new and fun to the table. I have also learned that working with women can be difficult and no matter how hard you try to be friends, some people are just assholes. Plain and simple.

So if you can believe it I am now over half way done with school! This year has gone by so fast! I have learned so much and am continuing to learn more every day. If you are thinking about going to cosmetology school, you should do it. It's a hard field but it has been so rewarding.

About 2 months ago they changed our schedule at school and we are doing 10 hour days for 3 days a week. M keeps throwing the word "job" out there in hopes of me possibly getting one since I have so many days off now. But I pretty much think that's bull. As in bullshit.

Girl, I feel your pain. I'm in grad school part-time while working full-time, and it is BULL. It's great that you've found a strong community within your classmates - I'm doing my master's online and all by my lonesome (wah!). But keep at it - you'll be snipping the tresses of the who's who in Dallas in no time!

I am so proud of you for taking this risk and going to school!! School is so hard, I've always said that I would rather work than go to school any day. And it's even harder to go back after you've been working full time. I'm not surprised you've made lots of friends :) And of course, the're always the resident biotch or two there to ruin your day. If I lived even remotely close to Dallas, I would totally be knocking on your door to do my hair!

Glad that is turning out to be what you hoped and that you are liking it-despite the bull! I could never quit my j-o-b so going to school full time and trying to get in cosmetology hours would be really hard. Plus, I don't think I like touching people! I'm taking some just for the hell of it part time classes this semester though.

That is SOOO awesome! Taking those huge leaps of faith are never easy but you sure do look good doing it. If I lived close I'd let you make mishaps on my hair! Just enjoy this time and remember the crazy mistakes you make so you can laugh about them in 10 years when you are styling celebs hair!

I still think it's awesome that you took such a risk to follow your dream! Even if it is a little craptastic sometimes, sounds overall like you made the right choice! And by the looks of your friends wedding hair, you're gonna rock it when you graduate! Fabulous job lady!

I wish you weren't so far away, I need a new hair lady like yesterday!
